Petruzielo has been the superintendent of schools in Cherokee County since 1999, and the school board is set to decide whether or not to extend his contract through 2016.
Petruzielo’s annual salary is $224,702, not including benefits such as a $600 monthly automobile allowance, insurance coverage for himself and his family for health, dental and vision, and an annual premium paid by the Board of Education for the superintendent’s $250,000 life insurance policy, School District spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby confirmed.
Petruzielo’s contract, approved by board members in 2012, is set to expire Aug. 20, 2015. The board’s vote tonight could extend Petruzielo’s contract another year, until Aug. 20, 2016.
Petruzielo came to Cherokee County from a position as the superintendent for a school district in Florida, and his contract with the local Board of Education has been continuously renewed since 1999.
The school board will meet tonight at 7 p.m., at the Historic Canton High School Board Auditorium, at 111 Academy St. in Canton.
Before the meeting, at 5:30 p.m., the school board will hold its semi-annual Trends in Education Strategic Work Session, which is also open to the public.
