Cherokee pie challenge final contest is Saturday

HICKORY FLAT — Summer’s end signals the last of some local farmers markets, and one of the final events of the season is the Pie Challenge Final Contest on Saturday.

The event will take place at Cherokee Fresh Market with judging set to begin at 9 a.m. for the ultimate in pies...from beautifully flavored peach pies to honey and lavender cheesecake pie and more, the Cherokee Farm Bureau said. The entries are the best winners of Cherokee and North Fulton farmers market pie contests held during the summer months.

Judges include Georgia’s Chef Holly Chute of the Governor’s Mansion, Chef Daniel Porubiansky of Century House Tavern, Chef Tony Pisconeri, Chef Micki Kimberly of Osteria Mattone and local resident Drew Gonczi.

Among the contestants on Saturday will be the Waleska Farmers Market at Reinhardt University Pie Winners Candice Colby in the Adult Category, Youth Category winner Sarah Ellis and Sasha Makarov in Pro Category.
