Commonly recognized by many as the last chance to enjoy warm weather, the Labor Day holiday will be accompanied by many closed local offices Monday.

Among those closing for the holiday will be city offices in Canton, Woodstock, Holly Springs, Waleska, Nelson and Ball Ground. Cherokee County government offices will be closed, and the Board of Commissioners will not meet Tuesday.

Cherokee County students will have a long weekend as well, with all schools in the county taking the day off from class Monday, including Reinhardt University and Chattahoochee Technical College.

Cherokee County School District offices will also be closed, as will all libraries in the Sequoyah Regional Library System.

Those who use the Cherokee Area Transportation System will need to find other arrangements Monday, as it also observes the Labor Day holiday. The Cherokee offices for the North Georgia Health District will be closed as well, and will reopen at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Residents are also reminded all banks will be closed, and no mail will be delivered Monday.

The city of Canton will kick off the Labor Day weekend fun Saturday with its Movie on the Lawn event. Starting at 8:45 p.m., the movie “Rio 2” will be shown on the lawn at City Hall.

The Cherokee County Aquatic Center will also have special hours for those who want to take a dip Monday. The lap pool will be open from 6 a.m. to noon, and the recreational pool will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. The oasis pool will open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for those to enjoy the holiday.
