Holly Springs City Council could start paying for the citywide recycling it now offers at no cost for residents and will discuss the price at Thursday’s work session.

City Manager Rob Logan said North Metro Waste now provides the services to the city for no cost, but that is about to change.

“Due to an increase in costs associated with this service, North Metro Waste requests that the city reimburse them $150 per haul. That increase will amount to about $8,000 over the course of a year,” Logan said.

City Council members will discuss what the options are to continue providing recycling for the city at the work session at 7 p.m.

The council will also discuss a Workforce Investment Act grant in the amount of $638,158 for two years from the Atlanta Regional Commission for Cherokee FOCUS.

Cherokee FOCUS is a nonprofit based in Holly Springs that seeks to improve the lives of the children and families of Cherokee County. The purpose of the grant is to help out-of-school youth obtain their GEDs and find jobs, Logan said.

Council is also set to discuss a Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant administered by the Georgia Department of Transportation. Logan said the city is required to submit a list of roads to be resurfaced under the LMIG and provide a local match of 30 percent for the project.

“Our allocation based on the center-line data is currently $82,950. We use this money along with local funds to resurface and repair roads in the city each year,” Logan said.

The resurfacing projects will take place on roads in the Barrett Springs subdivision, Taylors Farm subdivision and off Ronnell Road. The projects should begin by June 2015.
